All OS'es are improvments of the previous ones.
People like to bandwagon others saying vista sucks but not giving any reasons why. (No moople h4x isn't a valid reason).
I used vista for like 2 years and never had any problems with it. |
That came from when Vista came out, when it couldn't even copy and paste correctly. (files go missing, "360 years remaining", etc)
Terrible cooperation from hardware manufacturers regarding hardware drivers.
Now choose between aero glass and not missing files when you copy them from a folder to the next. The answer is obvious.

You clearly haven't used Windows 7. Win7 is ten times more user-friendly and easy to comprehend than XP. However, don't think of this as a bad thing, as it does that with no detriment to the ability to do more complicated things. It's not like Macs, where they're too user friendly and basically make users (that don't know any better) think that it's okay to mess around with things like disk utility and such, but still restricts you from doing much more than that. One of the main goals of Windows 7 was to make people more comfortable with their computer.

The question was more like "What can you do on XP that you can't do on Ubuntu". The answer was game.
I run Arch and like it, though I would try others from time to time. However, I wouldn't wish Ubuntu on anybody. The spirit of concision, transparency just isn't present. GNOME has a registry for christ's sake.
While for ME Linux is better, I recognize most people aren't going to put up with a steeper learning curve and have all the money in the world for an OS (or willingness to pirate via torrenting). For them the best OS is Windows 7.
But in my mind, benefits of free software > sexy Unix with bash, good support and drivers > Windows, with 7 second tips and 2-year-old power users.

Win7 is the best in my opinion.
Nice gameplay with DX 10/11
XP would be next, and Vista last due to it being FAIL.
Vista is better than XP for gameplay but it is pretty poorly made.
Win7 is what Vista was supposed to be, and when they failed on Vista they made sure not to make the same mistake. Win7 is very nice.

It has many driver problems and running problems. It is slow and is a hastle to use in some cases. Win7 is Win Vista with those problems fixed.
