Because it's quite the opposite. |
Explain. |
The universe is expanding "indefinitely" some think it may stop sometime and start imploding, which we hope won't happen. |
So how does that at all disprove what I said? | What Akaecius said was true, however that was not what I meant by opposite. The chance of there being life on other planets is tremendously LOW, not high. In fact, everything you said, it's actually quite the opposite. There's a good chance our Earth is one of a kind. And I don't think you get how immensely far away other places are. The brightest star is out solar system (or should I say, binary star system) is Sirius. It is so bright because it is one of the closest stars in our solar system, but it is still 8.6 light years away. Now when you consider a light year, and I do hope you know this, but I've been disappointed by you before so I'll explain anyway, know that light can travel around the Earth ~8 times in one second. Now consider the circumference of the Earth, now multiply that number by 8. Now consider the number of seconds in year, and multiply that by the previous product. Now you have the distance of a light year, now multiply that by 8.6, and you have Sirius. It'll be more than a couple hundred years that we can travel that far. |
The chance for life is extremely high because the universe is extremely fucking HUGE, it's not just our universe we don't know whether or not there's something even farther then that, even bigger. Considering our universe is so large, filled with an uncountable ammount of solar systems and an uncountable ammount of planets, life in other places is extremley high. | Ok first off, THERE IS ONLY ONE UNIVERSE, THINK OF WHAT THE WORD UNIVERSE MEANS, UNI = ONE.
Secondly, no, the chance of life in other places is extremely low. There is a REALLY good chance that our Earth is one-of-a-kind due to the fact that the conditions that a planet must have in order to sustain any form of life are nearly impossible to achieve. Again, it's baffling that it happened once and that we are all in existence today. |
We don't know if there's something bigger then the universe considering technology is at its level now, we THINK that there's only one universe.
So your saying all other life will follow the same exact format as humans? No. Other organism are not going to need the same exact conditions to live, any number of things could lead to the creation of life on other planets, just because humans can only survive on Earth doesn't mean other exterrestrial life have to live on a planet like Earth.
You see where I'm going with this, a planet doesn't have to be like Earth to sustain life. | No that's the thing it does. Because the way LIFE simply works is that it requires certain conditions in order for things to...have life. I mean, I suppose there could be some living floating ball of gas...but it isn't going to be any more living than a tree. For INTELLIGENT life to exist, it does have to have to be like Earth.
And again, since you're an idiot and don't understand the concept of the word universe, I'll explain again.
BY DEFINITION, THE WORD UNIVERSE ENCAPSULATES EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY THING THAT EXISTS ANYWHERE. The word universe means 'one thing,' as in everything that exists is part of the universe. There can't be another 'universe,' because everything is in the universe.

You're so arrogant elpacco, so your saying humans are number 1, we are the shit, the best thing sinced sliced bread. Of course other planets don't have to conform to humans requirements to be intelligent, have you not realised how small an insignificant humans are, humans themselves are more like a virus then a species taking up and using resources to no end. Our scientists today use the word universe because we don't really know how big it is, I'm saying there might be more, who says the universe is just a small part of an even bigger place?
Sure if you want to think humans are on other planets go for it, that's the only thing that supports your arguement for other life on distant planets but think of the bigger picture we are fucking tiny, why would the requirements of life conform to humans.

And still, you don't understand what the word universe means. Seriously, you're unbelievably stupid if you there there are 'other' universes out there. So I got some definitions for you:
| Quote: | | All matter and energy, including the earth, the galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space, regarded as a whole. |
| Quote: | | the aggregate of all existing matter, energy, and space |
| Quote: | | The totality of matter, energy, and space, including the Solar System, the galaxies, and the contents of the space between the galaxies |
So BY DEFINITION, THE WORD UNIVERSE MEANS EVERYTHING, EVER. We may find other galaxies like really far away from the ones we know of now, but they will still be part of the universe, because THAT'S WHAT THE WORD MEANS. BY DEFINITION, IT CAN'T BE PART OF SOMETHING, IT IS EVERYTHING. THERE CAN'T BE MORE THAN ONE, BECAUSE IT UNI = ONE, THERE IS ONE UNIVERSE, THAT'S WHAT THE WORD MEANS. You have to consider the fact that nature didn't come up with these words, we did, therefore they are exactly the definition that we give them, nothing more, nothing less.
I'm not saying humans are great, I'm saying we're lucky. And again, according to my personal philosophy, we are the only form of intelligent life, therefore I would say we're pretty significant, as we can cause the most change.
And also, we invented sliced bread.

SOMEONE ACTUALLY SMART? elpacco you are basing the requirements for intelligent life on humans, again have you not thought about how small and insignificant we are? We havn't even reached Mars.

Humans are intelligent because we had to use tools and language to hunt efficiently. Our brain developed from these two completely separate sections. It's more of environmental factors regarding the availability of food and resources that influence intelligent life.

Alright guize. Bacteria from which we all evolved do not have the requirements we have to live(they might evolve like us making an ozone layer, making moar oxygen and creating a planet even humans can live on, and evolving into e.g plants. They also might not and create a totally different way of "living".). The theory about life I learned about is like this:
>Bacteria in big soup of material
>Bacteria make oxygen
>Bacteria making the oxygen couldn't stand it and died
>Some bacteria evolved into using oxygen instead of what they used before
>One-celled organisms got moar cells
>Eventually mushrooms, plants, animals and other stuff happened
>Dinosaurs come
>Dinosaurs leave
>First homos come
>etc.
>etc.

Could there not be different processes that could contribute to different types of life?(I'm aiming this at elpacco because he thinks humans are the base)

>Dinosaurs leave
>First homos come
>etc.

Could there not be different processes that could contribute to different types of life?(I'm aiming this at elpacco because he thinks humans are the base) |
There could be. Maybe they use different fuel instead of glucose...

There are some types of bacteria called 'extremophiles' that can survive in extreme levels of temperature. Now given the fact that bacteria has been found on other large masses within space who knows what these 'extremophiles' can evolve into?
*Most don't rely on water.
*Can withstand immense pressure & temp.
*Some are found to be in volcanoes.
You can't assume a planet needs to be 'earth like' to contain intelligence.

That's funny because, of the ones we've found, none are, and there's a pretty good chance we won't find any. |
That's funny, because there are celestial bodies even in our own solar system that have the basic necessities for life to exist. Our solar system is so small compared to the rest of the universe, there are so many galaxies out there that have to have at the very least basic life. If we happened by chance, life could just as easily happen by chance anywhere else, what makes the Earth so special?
