I normally avoid this section due to the strict moderation -- however I wanted a more honest opinion than I would get from RS.
Do you believe in Aliens? Before you answer, take a couple milliseconds to realize I don't just mean the stereotypical large, bald, green head with large black oval bug eyes.
And to further clarify what I'd like the discussion to be about, I don't mean these either:
What I generally mean is, do you believe intelligent beings such as ourselves with complex emotions and self-awareness exist on other planets?
Take into consideration, that we live in a universe. There is only one universe, as far as we will ever know.
Inside the universe are galaxies. There are at least 100 billion galaxies. Out of all of them, our best, most sensitive, advanced equipment (The Hubble Telescope, radio scopes, etc) can only see a few thousand of them.
Inside the galaxies are stars (suns). Our Milky Way Galaxy has about 200 billion visible stars (most of them are too faint for the human eye to see).
Each one of these suns could have a solar system with planets such as ours.
It's just a matter of everything coming together exactly right, and if you do something trillions of times, you can bet that eventually one of them is going to be right.
This should imply that we are extremely lucky, to have been born in exactly the right planet AND time (right when computers develop, the world seems so perfect, so realistic... in a perfect world, there needs to be chaos and imperfection, or it would seem unrealistic).
Life can essentially be broken down into a recipe. You need a certain sized sun at a certain age, a certain sized planet at a certain distance from said sun, as well as many other basic elements such as water (which would come from comets). An atmosphere is formed, weather system develops, electricity strikes a primordial soup of basic elements, somehow forming proteins that, through natural selection and millions of years, develop into complex beings similar to humans.

I believe and have always believed in Aliens. Not just green bugheaded big eyed life-forms, just life-forms that might look like us in another faint galaxy.
Anyway, there has to be another form of life in one of the trillion planets. _________________

Why must there be other life forums?
I'm not saying there aren't, although I'm not saying there are either.

I'd like to hear your argument.
Basically what nevergreen said. The earth itself is made so it can hold life, there millions of planets that are exactly like the earth, there has to be life on it.
The universe won't end, it's just so unlikely that we are the only ones.
What if they have super advance technology scope that they can actually see what we are doing, etc. but there is a huge force that is blocking them for coming to us?

Chance of a planet becoming perfect for life = ±1 out of a billion
Number of planets in universe = ±1 Trillion
1000 billion = 1 trillion.
So there have to be at least 1000 other life forms in the universe. _________________
If so many diverse types of plant and animal life can survive on Earth, I don't see why out of an incomprehensibly large, possibly infinite universe, that there wouldn't be several other forms of life out there in similar solar systems.
the universe is bigger than we could ever imagine, also, the fact that our galaxy alone has trillions of stars and if there was just a 1 out of a million chance that there are planets like earth that still equals to millions of civilizations. I believe it to be impossible for earth to be the only planet with intelligent lifeforms.
Also, watch this video and just TRY to imagine the size of these stars. It's impossible, now think how big the universe is...

Where did you get that from?
We haven't even properly explored another planet, no-one on Earth knows the number of planets in the universe or the chance of a planet becoming perfect for life.
As for your last statement, even if a planet is perfect for life, it won't necessarily hold life or other intelligent life forms.

But the chances are increasing big time.
Of course, I was merely criticising him for stating it as fact.
