I'll admit, I haven't tried gaming on linux for bloody ages, but when I did it had horrible support. |
Not hardcore crap like Crisis or anything. I'm not a heavy gamer. Mostly low spec MMOs.

Does everything work on Wine or only some?
@Everyone, why exactly is the Debian download giant? Correct me if I'm wrong but Ubuntu is supposedly based off Debian but it's only around 700MB while Debian has multiple 4.4GB links.

Wine is pretty capable now, seems modern games are on WineHQ and people have been able to play them (sometimes with mods, most likely with the proprietary NVidia video driver and a good rig). However, there are a number of games you can run natively that use OpenGL, usually cross-platform (Supertux, Cube 2 Sauerbraten, etc.)
It's not impossible to game on Linux, but don't expect incredible performance from the drivers, running games under Wine. Worst case, you've got Frotz/Zork and DOSBox.
Dillonz, check the WineHQ if you have specific games in mind.

I could always use VirtualBox or something like that anyway.

| I suppose that's true. Virtual Box 3+ supports basic hardware acceleration pretty well, I had Diablo II running on it a while back.

| Flash player could be off (I'd recommend downloading from Adobe, "cp libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/", restart firefox. Could be video drivers if you haven't installed anything yet.

This is what I got.

Edit: I also don't know how to install the video drivers. I tried System>Administration>Hardware Drivers and it found nothing.
