It also depends on the surface that is on fire, wood smoke tends to linger longer than gasoline explosions.

Reason the smoke looks weird is because it appears to be just a single ball... Not a continuous stream. It should ball up, or roll, but not stop smoking after the explosion. The fire should emit the same amount of smoke, if not more, after the explosion has ended.

I've fixed the debris and made the smoke fade to 60% opacity after the initial burst, I'll also add some streaming smoke.
