have u heard of phineas gage?
he had a tamping iron shoot through his brain in 18XX (somethin dont remember)
he lived for 30 years after that.
it cut out part of his brain andh e turned vial and mean.

If it was a pistol it may be possible that he had intended to shoot himself twice so his muscles carried out the function even though he was already dead since the nerve signal was already sent/sent at the same time of death. Not sure if this is possible with a shotgun.
