NetBeans or Eclipse? Java's syntax seems like C's so I'll start with Java. No sense of learning very similar languages when 1 is the most used and is way better.

What I plan to do once I become more familiar with Java:

create a trainer for some games (if I can, if not then I'll embed it in your URL to set the vars)

possibly create a server emulator (sounds really really difficult, although I'm not sure)

make a game? (dunno, just sounds fun)

Maybe this might influence your decision.

Also if you don't like either, tell me one that is a general one please. Thanks for your time guys.

I personally prefer NetBeans but my college professors keep telling people to use Eclipse.

Glad to see your back! Welcome back man ^^ thanks for the tip btw. I was just looking at the most widely-used languages and Java was 1st so I figured why not learn one similar to the C syntax instead of learning C? Anyways I'll be going to BAM later on and I'll get a book about Java, just wondering what IDE to use, like a general purpose one. Is there much of a difference in one?

funny you should bring runescape up, because it is a great game for showing pro/cons of using java to write games. its a pretty secure game that lags worse than WoW.
I'm by no means a serious programmer, just some guy who had computer classes from time to time in school, but i use visual c++.

When you talk about C/C++ and C IDE's be sure you are not talking about compilers.

Lately industry is converting to java very rapidly, c is already considered to be obsolete (not c++). In any case if you are going to do some gamehacking i would forget using java as it is not suited for something like that, it is used for development. As for IDE I would say use eclipse. It is really flexible and you can actually use it as general purpose IDE because it can be customised to your needs, there are alot of stuff to help you do that depending on what lang you choose.
