|
|
Can anyone tell me how I can do this?
Awhile back, I partioned my hard drive so I can dual boot xp and 7, but now I just want 7. I formatted both partions and installed 7 onto one. How can I get the other partition to merge with the one 7 is on. Would it delete everything?

Start> Computer>Right click>Manage> Disk Management
now select the XP partition, click delete. Right click on windows 7 partition click extend volume then follow the prompts.
and yes, this would wipe everything off of the deleted partition.

The XP partition is already whiped. I'm wondering if it'll whipe the Windows 7 partition.

Sorry I just edited my post, and the answer is no, your win7 part won't be affected and no data will be lost.

You know where disk manager is located in Windows 7?

Windows Explorer > Right click "Computer" (in the navigation pane) > Manage > Disk Management.
Or you could just search "Disk Management" in the Start menu search bar.

If all else, use partition magic.

What if "Extend Volume" is not a clickable option? Or do I delete the partition?
Oh okay, yeah I had to delete it.
Thanks everyone.

I don't recall Partition Magic being supported at all on Vista and above. It only worked on XP (and some versions below XP), and Vista/7's disk management tool is good enough for most general uses.

Acronis Disk Director suite - fastest and safest, works 100% under windows 7 too.
Best partitioning software.

Since you formatted both partitions, you could have also deleted the partitions as well. Then create a new single partition, format, and then install Win7.
