He could have been saying that the theme of the sig itself, meaning the style you used, is smudge.

and what the ef is up with the flaming?

you can achieve the same thing by using a smudge technique. It can be considered smudge.
The style that matches this the most is smudge.

Proof that you can label this as smudge:

(it's not as good because i rushed it, but who cares. It's smudge =/ )

Used nothing but smudge tool and one or two splatter brushes.
(took about 3-5minutes?)

Just because it can be achieved with smudging, doesn't mean it is smudging. Also you used a splatter brush...

It can be called a smudge sig.
How can i prove it can be considered a smudge sig? I smudged something to create that effect. And who cares if i used a splatter brush? Kind of flipping pointless of you to add that there.

its actualy pretty good. maybe mack the purple a little darker, and the light in the center less intense.
