Quit using C4D's for now, work on stuff without them. They aren't really making your work look good...

Work on manipulating the 'stocks' or C4D's you use to achieve your desired effects. If it helps, you could change the hue after duplicating it and lowering the opacity to make it go with the background or focal's colors and still not have monotone colors.
Also, stop using C4D's for once. Experiment with the different Blending modes instead of just sticking to either Lighten, Linear Dodge, Color Dodge or Screen or whatever.

Used like 2-3 c4ds here, other are stock effects.
