Science homework.

Involves the stars, In the stars life cycle the last thing that it becomes is a "black dwarf" but in my science book it says that "Our universe is not old enough to have any black dwarfs"

I have to figure out how they (Scientists) know that a star turns into a black dwarf if it's never happened in this universe.

Anyone got an idea?

I don't understand how it can be a hypothesis if there's no real way of knowing what it's going actually going to turn into, Isn't their some sort of clue to help them make that hypothesis or are they just making bullshit and guessing..

They stole the idea from a sci-fi movie they saw once, and nobody has been able to prove it wrong yet.

Well I don't see why something must be proven wrong if there's no evidence of it actually happening, Shouldn't they be trying to prove that it happens instead of asking people to prove them wrong?

They can also be proven, which makes them a Therom or Law instead of theory.
