Okay, owner complains of having random hanging, later followed with a few BSODs. The computer powers on and stays on, but there's no video output.
I was thinking power. Could insufficient power or a bad PSU cause these symptoms?
Components:
Pentium Dual-core E21xx
DDR2 memory - No beep when they're taken out and the computer powers on (odd)
Onboard graphics
HP Pavilion A6300F
I'm going to be checking the memory and trying out my PSU.
Any ideas?
EDIT:
It's not the monitor or cable. They work fine from my netbook.
Bad PSU? Chances are it's not the CPU (it's a newish Intel, so it probably wouldn't have asploded). Plus, no smell..

any specific beeps during startup ?

Do you get a beep? You'd probably get a nice memory test failure beep code if you tried to boot without memory, though the machine will power on.
I'm going to call either memory or PSU here.

Well, I tried a few configurations with the memory, including with my own mushkin PC2-6400 DIMMs, and nothing worked. The old DIMMs worked in my setup anyway.
Thing was, no beeps. Not for no memory, no processor, any normal reasons for it to freak out.
I ended up testing the CPU on my board with the original memory and it wouldn't boot. I then tested my E8400 on the other computer, with both power supplies and it didn't boot, so both the CPU and motherboard are suspect.
I only realized I didn't do any decent test on their PSU after I left. Is there any good reason for both a CPU and a motherboard to die in a series of hangs and BSODs (matter of days, I think)? Would it have to be power related?
EDIT:
Another question. It'll probably be going from the 630i chipset to a G31 or something. I assume I'll have to call Microsoft for a new activation code (this is Vista Home Prem. by the way). Will the original installation work alright if I were to do a repair install, install drivers and Windows Update? That wouldn't leave anything broken, right?

Yes, when my PSU died, I kept losing signal to the monitor and it the computer would freeze in a glorious, repeating sound fashion. After a few times, it decided it would fuck my video card (which I got replaced) and mysteriously enough, my sound card. System still was fine after I replaced it and I'm lucky it didn't do the motherboard in.
And yes, you can probably get by with a repair install, but I can't really recommend it.

I'll test it tomorrow with a multimeter as I should have done today. Really they just want to be able to use it ASAP so I'll be calling around for a Micro-ATX board and CPU to places nearby. It was used for business (and home?) finances so they'll probably want to get back to that software. If there's any sort of hitch, it's still better to export from some of these programs than be left with huge manuals that don't have any answers about dealing with the files (dental software, bad experiences).
