Well turns out, that 512mb of ram I have is integrated to my laptop. I can still put in a 1gb chip, but i have been told(by gahoogle) it cant register more then 1.5gb. Im wondering if this is a hardware issue or the OS problem. It runs winxp, but if it cant read more then a GB, ima have to kill something.

Discuss.

Your statement is a wee bit confusing.

You can add a 1GB stick to your already existing built in ram, adding up to 1.5gb of ram.

But is the problem that your only getting 1gb of ram read? Or something else?

It can only read 1gb of ram excluding what it already has.

OH so your saying it can't register anything larger then an extra 1GB.

That is answerable.

Yes it is his netbook, Its not that its broken or anything but its just the system itself isn't made to support anymore then that amount.

If you're willing to make it look ugly. You will need some electrical engineering knowledge.

Replace everything. New power supply, new GFX card, new motherboard, new everything.

No, but your netbook sounds like shit, so I'd do it anyways.

I don't think theres a "fix" for it.

It came like that.

Have you tried putting a 2GB stick in?

I will be tomorrow when i go to my local computer store. They do free checks, so they can tell me or not. But there is a hack for this to make it have a 2gb stick in it + the 512 integrated.

A hack for it? So your telling me the builders of the netbook decided it would be cool to limit the amount of RAM from 4GB to 1.5GB by blocking anything higher?

Why the fuck would they do that?

Because the laptop has that 512 onboard, it wont recognize. It can accept 2gb max, but on some models of my netbook, it wont disable the onboard and only run the physical chip. Mine is new so it may let me have 2gb and disable its 512mb. If it can do it, then fuck ya.

Good.

All you'll really need is 2GB so its pretty much a win win.
