Then reformatting would be gibberish too.

Once all your "remarks/comebacks" are shot down then you call it fail. Well done.

Well shit....I said one thing and no one shot me down and I still call it fail.......See your "logical" comparison of an engine and a hard drive are off. We are not asking someone to take there computer apart and rebuild it from the ground up. It is not hard to reformat, I could pull up 1k+ google links that will show you 100% step by step how to do it, Rebuilding a car engine takes skill and time, clicking a few steps from a boot up CD is not brain science, you just need to pull your head out of your ass for 50 seconds to see what your doing.

But as I said before NO ONE USES GOOGLE TO SEARCH THEY ALL POST HERE FOR THEIR STUPID QUESTIONS! Also as the OP said no one reads the posts before and your a obvious example.

Reformatting doesn't even take long if you use a custom repack of your OS.
There are versions of XP that install just the bare essentials, which takes no longer than half an hour, versus the full install in like 5 hours.
If you think about it, this could be a lot easier than spending 3 hours finding a decent support forum, asking why your wireless adapter isn't working, waiting for a response, getting asked for a more detailed explanation, posting a report from a system checking app, trying 5-10 different suggestions, and two days later you give up and reformat anyway.

Yes I am a skimmer because there are more pressing questions besides 'my sister fucked up my pc by clicking the wrong button, what do I do?' People with true issues need better answers, why spend 5 hours on some stupid ass question that is solvable by reformatting?

just to clear something up.. reformatting does not necessarily solve all problems including virus related problems. some viruses can stay even past a format

Because they're asking how to fix the problem, not how to bypass the problem.

Formatting should be a last resort. If fixing the problem only takes an hour or so, why waste all that time and effort reformatting and re-installing all your applications?

Nobody who asks how to fix stupid issues will know how to use a repack. They'll probably not know how to re-install properly either, which is likely to cause more problems.

The two problems are that idiots aren't searching Google for basic stuff, and when someone does post a legitimate question, people just post "reinstall windows".

The only way a virus can stay after a reformat is if it sits resident on a removable drive, then you execute it manually. You're basically re-installing the virus in that case.

You can get viruses that infect the BIOS. Despite that, BIOS viruses are practically non-existant these days. There's only been one that I know of in the last 10 years.

Would you shut the fuck up with your hot shot complex?
The BIOS is completely separate from the HD and has nothing to do with reformatting.
Besides, newer computers' BIOS are read only.
