Well, I've done quite a bit of hard shutdowns on a laptop I used, and after one of them the computer is shit slow. I've read and heard hard shutdowns damage the hard drive, but how do I fix it?

they typically should not.

modern file systems are generally good about abrupt shutdowns and the HD should manage itself fine.

i'd just do a repair install of windows.

I would reformat.
If the fresh copy of Windows runs fine, then it was a previous problem with Windows not the HDD.
But if the fresh copy is also slow then it may be the HDD.
But I personally agree with slovach.
I don't think the HDD is the issue.

NTFS and FAT32. I can guarantee you're not running on a HDD with FAT32, thus meaning you're using NTFS and there should be no damage from involving a hard shutdown.

In regards to your issue, I'd also recommend a reformat.
