Have you installed it's drivers?

EDIT: Also, note that a "RAID controller" and "hardware RAID controller" are two totally different things.

Look at this and this.

Although both marketed as a "RAID controller", the latter one is the only one that handles RAID on a hardware level as opposed to a software level. The hardware RAID does not bear any extra load on the CPU and the BIOS can be booted from them. It does not require any special drivers to run properly. The former, on the other hand, does not handle RAID on the hardware level, but on the software level. It does put load on the CPU and it does require a driver to work properly.

As true, hardware RAID controllers usually cost on the order of $300, I'll assume you bought the cheaper, software based RAID controller. It will not work without drivers installed.

EDIT2: Think of it this way. With one, you're buying a true graphics card. With the other, you're buying an extra DVI/whatever port. One puts no-very little load on the CPU and handles graphical processing at a hardware level, and, as such, is expensive. The other puts all of the load on the CPU, but is much cheaper. One was designed for one purpose only: to handle graphic processing. The other was designed only to act as a catalyst of sorts, putting all of the load on the CPU.

If you don't understand how to configure hardware RAID, you probably don't need it. Any form of RAID on the desktop is 100% unnecessary, unless you have a specific reason you need it, for example, the less chance of downtime on a server in a corporate environment, which doesn't sound like your situation.

If you need better performance, a drive with a higher spindle speed, or an SSD are your best bet.

With that said, you'll have to install the RAID drivers for your OS to recognize the card, and the card itself will have a BIOS screen of it's own that will come up right after the computer posts, there will be a button you'll have to press to get into the utility, from there you can configure it.
