2 Questions:
1. Should I?
2. What is the best Linux distro in your opinion? Why? _________________

1. Linux as a 24/7 desktop is retarded imo.
2. I like ArchLinux |

1: If you want to. I recommend installing wine though, you can then run windows apps, and even in 3d with if you get proper (non default) drivers. (or install a virtualization program so you can just run windows inside linux)
2: I usually use fedora core
But the best distro is the one you make yourself. _________________

1. Yes. You can always do what Dark Byte says but install a distro inside a virtual machine on a windows host.
2. Arch Linux is my fave to mess around with. If you want something that "just works" but still functions like linux, try Ubuntu or Sabayon (the latter being my choice.) |

1. Yes
2. I like Arch Linux and Gentoo. They would probably be hard to use and setup as a person who is new to Linux, but they would be great learning experiences. Also, never use Ubuntu. _________________

| I recommend Ubuntu. Now I know the rest of you will hate me for recommending it but it and gives you an idea of the simplicity of linux. I know you all have a list of whats wrong with ubuntu but it's a great distro to start off with. |

It's a horrible distribution to start off with. It messes up your perception of Linux. If you want simplicity try something like Arch. Their whole philosophy is based of simplicity and minimalism. _________________

I'm still on Ubuntu, I guess I haven't got the guts to try out the other distro's yet, but I got the feeling ArchLinux will be my next target. |

Arch isn't any more linux like than ubuntu. Especially because of its BSD style init framework. That shit confused me when I moved to other distros. |

K, I'm thinking about trying both ArchLinux and Fedora 11 out (since those were recommended by the majority of you guys. :D)
One question though:
What are the advantages of Linux over Windows? _________________

Last linux distro I used was Linux Mint.
Overall it wasn't bad. Although I did like using Debian (I think that's the distro I'm thinking of)
anyways, an advantage I find in using linux is just the security itself. |
