How can there be only half a dimension?

i think SSBB is 2.5d, some of the things are rendered in 2d

Many games have 2D sprite objects in their 3D world. Things like balls that appear the same from every angle are a good example of where game developers can just use a 2D sprite that appears 3D. I would never call that 2.5D though.
