Alright so i ordered some Arctic cooling Thermal MX-2 and I was wondering I looked around at many different places and they all said something different for application. I was thinking of just putting a pea sized dot in the middle and letting my heat sink spread it out, or is there another way Confused

Put a peasize on it, then twist it back n' forth (like 2 twists" then apply the clamp.

Thermal compound isn't supposed to provide a barrier between the heatsink and CPU, it's supposed to fill in the microscopic gaps between the heatsink and CPU. Use a rice-sized amount at most, then reapply the heat sink in whatever manner you believe will spread the thermal compound to the edges of the CPU/heatsink.

I made that with mine when changing the fan and my PC works on 30 C nicely, rarely it goes over 40 not in games but in intense particles simulation.
like when in real flow (( 3D fluids systems program ))
when I want to simulate a fluid with over 2 million particles it uses all my processor. there normally my PC runs at 39~40 C

so I suppose I did it right with the paste thing

Put a pea dot in the center of the CPU, and then take a plastic wrapper or something similar and wrap it around your index finger. Rub the paste onto the entire top of the CPU evenly.

Apply HSF.
