/title

I'm sorta on a budget, and I have a really old/crappy computer.
Let's just say I have 428mb of RAM. Not even 1GB --which is mediocre.

Suggestions?

I'm sure you can get at least 1 GB of RAM. Plus, RAM is very important to me, so I'll be needing a bit of that.

Correct me if I'm wrong though but RAM lowers the amount of lag on a computer?

kind of
the RAM is like your cache
stores data temporally close to your processor so it can take it quicker instead of calling it directly from the hard disk

A nice essential rig for about 320$ shipped to N.Y.
That would be after all the mail-in-rebates.
It should be able to run source games without any problems such as CS:S.
Of course if you could use your HDD from your old PC, you could save 50 bucks and spend it on a better CPU/GPU/More RAM/.

Try and get an ex-rental computer, I see some decent ones for low prices sometimes.

Oh and I forgot the DVD/CD burner and floppy, but I'm sure you can use the ones from your old computer.
