| I'm torrenting something that has 2000 seeders and 4000 leachers at 4kb/s. I rarely torrent but is this any good? I know that the whole point is getting it for free but I'd rather buy it than spend 5 weeks waiting for it. Is there any way to increase the speed?

there's guides out there for making utorrent faster, like allowing more connections and such, but things like too much or too little of an upload cap can screw over your download speeds. some things are fast and same aren't, most aren't but 4kbps is way too slow.

On your bandwith allowaction did you leave the speed of download unlimted? Cos that makes it epicly slow. Restrict it to a lower number and gradually move up.
I use to have this problem ti i did this and i hit up to 150kb/s.
Hope this helps.

| It's up to 30 kb/s now but that still seems kind of slow. How'd you get 1.5 mb/s?

| I only just limit the speed. Maybe you should also limit the upload speed as well. I can see it worked a bit for you. Takes me one avarage 2hours to download a 2hour movie.

The higher the upload speed the faster the download.

I know but if he left it on unlimited it would have been slower so then i told him to gradually increase the speed.
Read previous posts carefully please.

Not helpful, what if he is torrenting a Linux distro? Buy it? Pfft.
Anyway, limiting the upload packets wont do much, since some of it is reserved for upload (IIRC).
Portfowarding, or find a better torrent!

| How do I find out what ports to forward? And how safe is it? My dad probably wouldn't be all that enthused about forwarding ports for torrents.

what are the chances of that? compare how many legal torrents there are compared to illegal. And you could just download a linux distro directly from the site.
:/
