I recently bought an external hard drive, which is a WD elements 1TB
It worked fine for a day, then once I installed Ubuntu on it then it stopped appearing in Windows.
When I remove it, it makes the sound.
I am running Windows XP SP3

Because it is seen as a hard drive now, not a "zip disk" should we say...

Linux file systems might not appear correctly in Windows (the partitions), but the device itself should show up properly. The ext, ext2, ext3, and ext4 file systems, which are common journaling file systems used/integrated into the Ubuntu kernel might have problems being read in Windows.
I'm not very good with file systems outside of NTFS and FAT though.

Yeah as he said, I have ubuntu on another partition and it isnt seen.
Pretty much you need to reformat that eHDD as fat32,fat,NTFS or it won't come back.

I chose NTFS, it is now formatting.
Thanks.
How long will it take? It's 1TB but only had about 5GB of data on it.

There is a way to view ext# partitions in Vista/XP... Did you format it yet?

Yes, he is formatting it...
He totally ignored the solution and listened to saf...
Saf, Why the fuck did you tell him to format when I told him how to fix the solution with a simple program...
I hate you saf... Always have...
