How can I turn this off. Whenever I play a song it adds it to playlist, it's getting to be a nuisance.

If you have iTunes or any other kind of music players, right click the song files and select open with then choose the music player you want it to open it in.
That's how I made mine works.

Try Winamp as default music player.
