Run Vista on default if you don't press any buttons.
If you run computer on the very startup, but let's say you press liek F10, then it loads the OS menu, and you can choose XP.
Plus, that'll be no problem.

That is just called dual-booting, and to do that you have to reformat and make two different partitions on your HDD. There are some programs that are simple to use and can give you features like the one you mentioned, or you could just do it yourself.

How big is the HDD and how much space is left? You can backup all of your dad's files onto disks or an external HDD.

Used: 98.2 GB
Free: 126 GB
Also, I don't think it'll work, since I don't have DVD or good CDs.
I heard you can reformat the partitions without deleting all the files, but I heard it's unstable.
Also, it comes up with the bootup screen whether you will choose to run XP or vista, so he'll know.
