How come when you throw something up in a car while it's moving, the object doesn't go backwards(assuming you're going forward)?

Well the car is going at the speed of 50/60 MPH. So shouldn't the object thrown up 'move' back that speed?

| OMG! That's exactly the kind of thing that I read over and over in books like my cousin's 12th grade physics textbook but can never remember. I'm looking that up, I'll get back to you in a little bit.

| Well I don't know much about this but I don't think it would go the same force back because there's also the force of it being thrown up.

| you and everything the car are moving at the same speed. so when you throw something up into the air, it seems like it isn't going anywhere, but it's going at the same speed as you.

Its called inertia. Object is still moving at the same speed of car assuming the car speed is constant.

cause when your throwing it your moving.
so itll move or stay still.
its the same reason that u keep moving when the brakes slam.

Well there can be two situations giving you two different answers.
If you are in a car with a baseball in your hand going 50 mph. You, the baseball AND the car are all going 50 mph. An object in motion tends to stay in motion if another force is acting upon it. So when you throw it up, it is still going 50mph forwarded, but it is also going x amount of speed up.
When it comes back down though... You might be gone Depending if the car has a roof or not.
Another example is that you are in a car moving 50mph.
Someone then throws a ball in the car (from outside who is not moving).
The ball, if gotten through the window, would fly back.
