My friends and I are going to make a clothing brand and I was wondering how to copyright my name for cheap and if my brand name was already taken.

Also, you don't copyright a name, you get a trademark for it.

you can do it online. and they check. if there is nothing relations with other works and you can prove its an original made from you it will be registered.
but you dont really copyright the brand, you copyright the products as a brand.
