You haven't actually asked any questions, you've simply put question marks after statements.

However, how much power does the hardware you wish to purchase, plus the hardware you already have need to run smoothly, you should then get something a bit larger, just in case you wish to upgrade later on (It does suck when you go to buy something, then you realize you need something as basic as more power to run it.)

But by a bit larger, actually do some research. A power thingy (No, I don't know what it's called ;D) isn't replaced very often, so think about what you need now, and in the future. See what you may get later on, and see what the difference between power usage is.

You might not need something much larger after all.

I use a small 500 W power supply from X-Connect. Tidy as fuck wires, easy to connect etc

The more watts your powersupply has... The higher your electricity bill. That is a good motto to live your life by.

So if you do not use all those watts, you are not only wasting watts, but also electricity.

Cellux raises some good points, most hardware specs tell you how much watts all of them draw. Add them up together and you have your answer!

Another good point that Cellux rose was that you need headroom. If you only need 400watts do not go out and buy a 750 watt power supply!

That is what we call, in the business, OVERKILL.

For all builds you need either a high quality 550watt (corsair or seasonic) or a 750watt.

HTPC (Home Theater PC )is a PC with a different case, and usually lower hardare specification's as it doesn't need as much power as hardcore gaming PC'z....

So saf you are both right and wrong...
HTPC may need a LITTLE less power, but it's the same PC basically...
