RAM: 512MB
Required Harddisk space: 3.62GB
Graphics card: DirectX 9.0c compatible with 128MB RAM
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and Mouse

the worst thing is that it takes 3 hours to download, 15 minutes to install, and aaaaaaaaaages to patch. seriously. but the game itself is lag-free.

it doesnt take long to download the patcher
but
the patcher itself takes like 2-3 days lol xD

WoW has none of those. The only reason it has so many players has to do with a snowball type effect. Some people thought it was ok/good so they started playing. They told more people, and once it hit a certain amount of people, all other MMO developers gave up. This means that WoW one of the only available MMO, so it is obvious that people that enjoy MMOs will play it.
