Windows movie maker works fine for me. ANd it's easy to use.

I really dislike WMM. There's Sony Vegas, which is a great fully featured suite for like a hundred bucks. Fry's sometimes has it as a bonus item, too. It was Lifehacker's Hive Five the other day, but it was stupid since they put things like Final Cut Premiere against WMM.

Sony Vegas Pro gets my vote. It's better in terms of interface and capabilities than Pinnacle Studio Ultimate and is in a completely different ball park compared to bundled software like iMovie and WMM.

If you need a desktop video capturing program, use HyperCam, Camtasia, or even Fraps might work.

Yeap, I use Sony Vegas Pro 9, also use Camtasia 6 (free) for screen recording.

CamStudio with Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V3 codec.
Small video file but (near)perfect quality.
