My school uses the freeware iTalc computer viewer/controller. I was wondering if anyone knew a script I could run that would disable it temporarily or a value I can change. Then, when the computer gets restarted, iTalc will run normally again. Any help would be appreciated.

Basically it allows teacher to view what you are doing and then control your computer through (I believe) a TCP connection. It's very annoying to be playing flash games and have your teacher yell at you because he can see what you're doing.

If it's freeware they probably don't hide the process. Just go into the task manager and kill the process.

What I have done is blocked the ports that iTalc runs on (5800 and 5900) with a portable application called CurrPorts, but less than thirty seconds later the client restarts itself and the port gets reopened. And yes, I work with my school's network administrator. I'm testing security flaws within the system. Our district runs a tight ship using the Novell Network OS.

Yes indeed same here.
I've noticed the same thing, say... is your district called Peel District School board?

TaskMan disabled? Download Process Explorer and kill it.
Or, do this:
1. Open CMD
2. type "tasklist" (w/o quotes)
3. A list of process appears. Search for the iTalc exe file.
4. After you found the processname (ex. iTalc.exe), type
"taskkill /pid <process name>" (without quotes)
Ex.
taskkill /pid iTalc.exe

Get a flash drive. Go into the root directory of it. Right click in explorer, and go to New>Shortcut. Put this in as the destination:
| Code: |
%windir%\system32\REG.exe add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
|
You can name it whatever you want. And if you want to lock it again so your teacher doesn't get suspicious, just make another new shortcut and put this as the destination:
| Code: |
%windir%\system32\REG.exe add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
|
Once again, name it whatever you want.

Thanks for the advice, but none of those methods work in killing the process. They all give me access is denied errors. Looks like we have more security on our system than I originally thought.
