How does that make them "smarter"?
If they dont consider themselves as "pets" then they are wild animals.
Also, dogs arnt mindless drones.
They are social. Meaning they want to be part of the group, so they are naturally inclined to do what the leader says. Clearly they have a mind of their own...
From what i've seen, a dog has more capability to learn and expresses it more than a cat does.

Well a cat is smarter or at least more prone to survive because it knows how to survive on it's own. Even when domesticated a cat will know how to survive once placed back into the wildlife environment. Dogs on the other hand need a group to hunt, traver and defend themselves. And once they have domesticated it is hard for them to stay alive in the wild. Cats are also able to learn the same tricks as dogs, the only thing getting in the way is their pride. Also, I have this nice little quote which proves it all:

Dogs don't do tricks because they're smart.
They do them to get a cookie, which they probably won't get.
(Several races of) small dogs think they're big and start fights with big dogs.
Some puppies walk between their masters legs.
Then, when they grow up, they think they still fit and make their masters trip over.
Dogs can't climb trees, or find an alternative way to get to their destination.
Dogs can't see the difference between 5 minutes and 5 hours.

Dogs are supposed to be in groups.
And the whole "pride" thing is just impossible to know.
we cant give human attributes to animals who cant tell us what they are thinking. Its just not logical to say that a cat has "pride." Why? you really dont know that for sure.
And if you consider cats to have "pride", then it is also safe to say that dogs have pride.
Definitions of pride:
-a feeling of self-respect and personal worth
Dogs show "pride" too. A dog's pride lies in its loyalty and need to follow the leader or be the leader and control the followers. Without being in either position, its worthless and it has no purpose.
And dogs are trained to do things that a cat would never do.
I dont mean stupid little tricks such as fetch the stick.
I mean rescue missions, working with other dogs/people to achieve a goal. Team work is more effective than individual work in most cases.
Dogs are more organized in groups. Higher chance of survival.
