As title says.
I am selling my dell computer on ebay which I got seven years ago.
One guy asked and said, "
What is the Dell service Tag? Are you the original owner? Thanks."
And I told him yes and gave him my service tag.

Was it unsafe for me to do this?
All I know about the key is that it gives my a link to drivers, shows my expired warranty, and that's it.

once again, was it unsafe?

People can use the service tag to instantly look up drivers and specs on Dell's site.

If a tech needs to remotely service your machine, they ask for your service tag so they can pull up some info.

No, it wasn't bad for you to do. You'll be giving them the number if they buy it anyway.
