So guys , my father asked me to buy a computer. He asked me to choose , laptop or desktop. Can anyone suggest me one ? and give your opinion, advantages , disadvantages. And the price for both laptop and desktop is same . its around 2,486.60 USD .
And , one question , is Asus GTX 295 better than Asus HD 4870x2 ?
Thanks.

the gtx 295 better in terms of performance, yes
If you wanna game, spend loads on a performance desktop, if i were you i'd get a decent gaming pc with 4870x2 (better value) and spend the rest on a nice portable laptop

It all depends on what you're going to use it for.

GTX 295 is better.
But I suggest you build your own desktop and might buy a cheap laptop also if you really need one.
Just tell me where you live an I could fix up a build from like newegg or somthing.

This. If you don't mind spending a few hours putting your computer together you could build a mind blowing computer for nearly $2500. It would certainly be much more powerful than any pre-built computer.
You could easily pull off something like:
2x GTX 295 (running under SLi) - ~$1k
Good SLi capable socket 1366 board - ~$300
Intel Core i7 920 - ~$300
1000W PSU - ~$200
6GB DDR3 RAM - ~$150
1TB HDD - ~$110
Noctua NH-U12P CPU cooler - ~$85
Antec 900 II - ~$160
Generic DVD burner - ~$20
Which totals out to about $2325. You could probably also fit in a decent monitor as well if you chose the right things, of course these are rough estimates.
Beat that with a pre-built computer.

don't get the 295 idiot. That will be the largest mistake you can ever make.
Windows 7 is coming out soon, which means DX11 is also.
Wasting that much money on a video card that's going to be outdated in a couple months is an idiotic decision.

Yes, building your own desktop is the way to go. Assembling it isn't hard at all, there are plenty of guides out there and you can check manuals and such.
