Both 45nm build, have the same amount of L2 cache (6MB)
2.53GHz on Q9300
2.66GHz on Q9400
Q9400 build with the newer stepping. |

I assume that Intel releases updated steppings for processors of the same family/similar specs.
It's really up to the price difference. If you can get the Q9300 for more than $20 less, then I would consider it a good deal. You could easily overclock it to Q9400 speeds by a small clock speed increase. _________________

| Well, the Q9300 not being on newegg.com alone would be enough for me to go with the Q9400 (or a Phenom II). |

| They are both 179.99 in stores. I guess if the q9400 runs out then I'll get the q9300. |

Nope not yet...
The Q9300 is still using a older stepping than Q9400
R0 is the newer stepping.

Heh, you're right. The Q9300 is still stuck on the M1 revision. There aren't many differences that I can see from the specs though. But at the same price, go for the Q9400. _________________

| Call and book for one? If not then just get 9300 which isn't too bad. |

| Yeah, don't worry about it. There's really not that much of a difference. |

According to Intel's whitepapers...
Q9400 has C3E and C4E where Q9300 does not.
C3E=Deep sleep state
C4E=Deeper sleep state
Probably saves more energy when the cpu is idle? |
