As the title says, I can't even get to my desktop because of this. As i'm booting up my computer it says"Cannot start windows hal.dll is missing or corrupt." I've found quite the few tutorials on how to fix this, but all of them include going on to the command prompt. I can't do that, because I can't even start windows. I have my boot cd, but when I use it I still get hal.dll corrupt or missing. How can I get hal.dll on my computer, when I can't even get to the desktop?
Note:I'm not on my computer at the moment, i'm using my friends.
If I left some details out, please ask for them.

I somehow fixed this by dowloading usb linux from a diff pc and copying over the boot.ini file and hal.dll
Oh infact, go into bios setup and just put boot from cd at top priority and it should boot from cd driver( i couldnt do this cuz i had none)

make sure the hal.dll is from a simlar system. A quad core boot.int/hal is different from a single or duo core.

If you still have your windows CD boot to recovery mode (on the cd)
In the recovery console, type in COPY D:\i386\hal.dll C:\WINDOWS\
where C:\WINDOWS is where its supposed to go (not sure if its here)
and D:\i386\hal.dll is the location of hal.dll on the windows cd. (pretty sure its here)
