Im running vista when i installed this. Now none of my CT work even after i reinstalled v5.4.
I tried to associate the files to CE but still didnt work. Any ideas what i can try?

I also noticed instead of CE overwriting v5.4, it just made a new folder. I'v since uninstalled all CE related files that i could find and tried each version on there own. Still getting the same result.

If you're running in 64-bit vista then that's 'normal'
The file association has been made on the 32-bit emulation part of windows.
E.g run any 32-bit program (e.g firefox) and click on File->Open file and browse to a folder with a CT in it. You'll then see that it has the ce icon,m and if you rightclick it and choose open it'll launch Cheat Engine

and how do you mean you can't get it to associate manually?
Just doubleclick on a CT, and it'll popup a window asking what to use to open it. (don't pick the option to search the internet for the answer) Just don't forget to tick the option to always use this option.

Not sure what you mean with the 2nd part.
It will just install to the folder that you specify on your install. (e.g: c:\Program Files (x86)\Cheat Engine overwriting the files that are present)

Of course, be sure that you have the rights to overwrite those files. Vista by default blocks even the admin to touch files made by another windows installation. To fix that add yourself to the people that have permission to it, then give yourself the rights, and then you can delete it. (either manually or overwrite with ce)

yeah its a 32-bit OS.
Iv tried that part choosing what to open the CT with. CE isnt an option and if i choose the file maually, it doesnt work.

I'll keep trying and see what happens. Even when i first ran CE and it asked (do you want to associate CT), it didnt work. All my CT files stay blank.

Are you sure that isn't a typo ? Because I haven't heard this one happening in 32-bit

isn't there a browse button in the file associations window in vista that'll open the file picker dialog and lets you find target ce ?

I take it you do run it as admin? (I think you are forced to, but perhaps your windows version has a block for it or something?)

edit: Redownload CE, I've kicked out the whole association stuff and put it in the setup. It now registers it without even asking the user

yup 100% its 32bit OS. When i say i manually try to associate, thats the file picker you mentioned. I would pick CE but it wouldnt do anything.

BUT
your new download did the trick. Everything is working perfect now.
It didnt associate the files at first but when i tried to do it manually, it allowed me this time.

Thanks
