Don't forget to tell him about rendering, brushes and text.
In order to use an image in your siggy, you have to render an image in order to edit it into a signature. There are plenty of tools for rendering an image in photoshop, my personal favorite is the wand. Once you have your image rendered, you can...well I don't really know much about what happens after you render your image. You can probably find tutorials for it all over the net. You can also find brush packs for making backgrounds on Google. Good luck.
