My friend and I built a new computer for him; we've got it booting and everything. The only problem is getting data from his old hard drive (we got him a new one).
Unfortunately, his old computer is completely disassembled, and we can't boot from his old hard drive (we get BSoD'd--presumably due to hardware changes not recognized by Vista). We can access the files on his older hard drive booting onto the newer one, but he wants to get his registry and all the files onto his new hard drive (we copied the files easily). I have no idea, though, how to get to the registry without actually booting up on that hard drive (use regedit, and just export everything).
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Edit:
Forgot to mention: both hard drives have Windows Vista [Ultimate 32-bit] installed.

| You could try making an image of the old hard drive using a Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image boot disk.

But what would it really accomplish?
I can access all the files perfectly easily; that's not the problem.
I need to get to the registry--booting on the old hard drive doesn't even matter.

Is there that much someone can benefit from the registry of a system they're not going to be using anymore? Can't really think of any way to do it without loading the OS. Sorry. D:

the registry is saved on your hard drive as hives, which i think you can import through regedit. wouldn't it be easier, though, to just ghost or install the programs that write to the registry manually?

Thanks for the replies everyone.
He decided to just reinstall everything he needs to (though he really complained about reinstalling WoW).
Thanks, again.
