You could also use Res-Edit if you fear making GUI's (although I think this is the fun part.)

Resources via Microsoft Visual Studio if you have a full version.

Manifests just include adding a couple lines to your code:

Code:
#pragma comment (lib, "comctl32.lib")
#pragma comment (linker, "/manifestdependency:\"type='win32' name='Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls' version='6.0.0.0' processorArchitecture='*' publicKeyToken='6595b64144ccf1df' language='*'\"")

Linking comctrl32, adding the manifest file and finally initiating common controls.

Code:
#include <Commctrl.h>

...

BOOL WINAPI _tWinMain(...)
{
   INITCOMMONCONTROLSEX icc;
   icc.dwICC  = ICC_STANDARD_CLASSES;
   icc.dwSize = sizeof(INITCOMMONCONTROLSEX);
   InitCommonControlsEx(&icc);
}

And your applications will all look the same.
