This has happened multiple times, all arising from the same situation.

I am running XP.

Situation:
Running maplestory with Bizarro Trainer, when bored close maple then bizarro or bizarro then maple.

Go to launch a program (like firefox), double click, hourglass appears for a bit then nothing. Same with all icons. Can't right click them in the system tray, nothing. Press ctrl+alt+del, opens up the options;

Log off user - logs me off, but nothing changes upon relogging.
Shut down - works and cures the problem until I next close BT.
Task Manager= does nothing.

I loaded Task manager beforehand the last time this happened, and it stayed up when the problem occured. Looking at processes, they are all there but all with 0 for CPU, mem usage remains the same. I can force-shut the applications but cannot create new ones.

I have given up wondering now as this seems quite serious and decided to ask before I really balls up my computer.

Update on problem1:

Hmm just opened task manager after a restart (after the problem occured) and it looks like it did during the problem.. dead.. yet firefox and msn are working.

I have noticed recently that my computer seems to be very sluggish in comparison to what it was like only a month ago.

p.s. two smaller problems that I may as well include to save on threads.

1) I have around 45gb of fragmented files (on a 111gb partition) according to defraggler yet when I run a defrag using it, it always stops at 4% and fails to get any further. No idea why, I can stop it and close it perfectly. Analysing works fine, but it always stops at 4% and never goes higher. Any ideas?

2) What text should originally be inside a boot.ini without any modifications.

I changes something to "alwaysoff" awhile ago and figured it may be best to turn it on again.

Thanks for any help guys

xxxx

For the defrag problem, try running a scandisk and see if that helps.
Run it from command prompt, not by the scandisk utility under the hard drive tools properties.

Open up CMD and type
scandisk x: /f /v

x: = the drive letter you want to scan

And 50 processes on XP is way too much it looks like your system maybe infected, some of the processes looks suspicious.

You can disable "GrooveMonitor" and "jusched"

btw, this maybe useful

You have to go to the root directory of C:

If will say do you want to scan now click N, and then it will ask you do you want to scan after a restart, select Y.

restart and let your system scan your hard disk.

C:\>scandisk c: /f /v

For defragging I would use something like DirMS or O&O Defrag and see if it will get farther than 4%.
