Thanks for the help guys, but I uninstalled it and installed Visual C++ 6.0 instead, and everything works fine.
I think my problem was that I wasn't creating the right type of file or project.

wow all of you epic fail...
ive had this problem before, it has to do with the release/debug settings and the failure to open the file correctly. the way i fixed this was to just delete the old file and recompile.. try using Clean project in the build tab.
good luck

Click on the editor text -> Ctrl + A -> Ctrl + X -> Close Solution -> Create New Project -> New File .cpp -> set focus on the text area -> Ctrl + V -> Debug = Release -> Press F7.
enjoy.

you forgot a semi colon after the last cout.
oh, that wasn't the error.
do rebuild solution, then build again.
also, fucking idiots before me. Learn what return 0; does before you say others misses it.
also also, instead of having three lines for each variable, do
float num1, num2, sum;
looks neater.

You use such disgusting and hideous ways of doing simple things. Please kill yourself, or learn more before giving people stupid methods of doing things.

lol, you're getting mad for giving him a solution before you ? get real man.
also, you saw the person had no clue what to do from everyone's suggestions so mine was pretty clear and easy to perform.

You are thick and ignorant. Learn2Read.
All he had to do was rebuild the project which is the menu, so yours is a waste of time. If he can't figure out how to rebuild the project, when the button is clearly in the menu, he shouldn't be using Visual Studio.
