Yeah, but the episode ends when something good is gonna happen. Then in the next episode, it's not as good as we thought it was.

thats because they switched the story line and replaced the original ;_;
DBZ is supposed to be based on a chinese story called Journey to the West (or Monkey)
its about a monkey in a quest for immortality + enlightenment.
Goku is exactly like the monkey.
he has the stupid pole that changes size and the flying nimbus.
he also turns into a monkey and is insanely strong.(just like in the story)
goku is also the name of one of the characters in the journey to the west story.
oh and theres that pig guy in DBZ who is also a character in Journey to the West.
and i think.....
Picolo or w/e is supposed to be the water demon in Journey to the West.
master rochi(or w/e his name is) could possibly be the master who told monkey how to use his powers. (same as how rochi taught goku how to fight)
Bulma might be Tripitaka seeing as goku joins bulma in a journey for the dragon balls. (in the story the monkey joins a monk(Tripitaka) in a journey to find some sacred scrolls)
and that is the real origins of Dragon Ball~
