So I recently installed nod32 but had really high ping spikes whenever I play CS 1.6. So I uninstalled it & installed Kaspersky 2009 Anti-Virus and still get the ping spikes.

Now, even when I exit Kaspersky I get these ping spikes; every 10 seconds or so it goes from 50 to around 800 (the character just freezes for 2 seconds).

How to rid of it?

Probably someone hacked your CS and tracked your IP address, which could lead to mass pinging by simply going into cmd and pinging.

Offtopic: Once I pinged the IT guy at my school and I got away with it xD

Oh forgot to mention, this has been happening ever since I reformatted my computer 2 days ago - it never happened before.

Also, my IP is dynamic, so even if pinging did have an effect, they wouldn't be pinging me.

The lag is bugging me so bad.. I keep getting owned because of it Confused

i get this also in CSS when i go into a crap server :\
it's 100% more annoying on a surf server as you always splat on something Evil or Very Mad

Either someone is fucking with you, like making massive package sending, by a server or somthing.

Or as I think you probebly just got some software thats fucking it up, with software I also count viruses and trojans.

AV is constantly monitoring your computer. If you consider it's regular scans as "hearbeats", and every heartbeat increases cpu load, then it will effect the ability of your pc to proccess network functions, which can in turn lead to lag.

Install something more lightweight like AVG and see if you still have the problem.

Yes but the larger system hog programs routinly scan memory or directories accessed.

Lightweight doesnt mean worse security. AVG is the best free anti-virus scanner, and its system impact is quite low.

This is how I see it. AV scans files your computer is accessing before loading them into memory. If your playing a game, the game will access and read/write files on the disk, so the av "possibly" could be scanning those files as it does this. And since any file can be infected, it probably doesnt classify the file as "safe" and skip scanning it.

Either way, if the av is bogging your system down more than not having it, when you load up cs:s there is going to be more load than if you didnt have av. So proccessing time of network interfaces is going to take longer.

Like Konata Izumi said, disable the anti-virus before play at best.
