I do agree that ASM is faster and creates smaller programs. I know that as a fact. But that doesn't mean C is over rated. Many high-level languages now are derived from C. I'm not hating on any language here. Just proving that C is not over rated. ( I am a fan of ASM too and can program a little bit in it ). _________________

You're a complete total retard. C is converted to native code. So therefore anything C related languages can do, ASM can do better and faster and efficient.
You say speed isn't important? Make a big app and compare the load up time and run time and clock speed. Fucking idiot. |

SSE would like a word with you. |

I've made some programs completely in MASM, but then I started C++, and I noticed that it generated more optimized code than the code I made in MASM. I don't know about C, but C++ creates really fast code. The only downside is that the total size of an executable is a lot bigger in C++.
About SSE, are there any C or C++ compilers that generate code optimized with SSE instructions? |

The Microsoft compiler will generate code for it, but it doesn't do any of the vectorization. The Intel one attempts to do that, but I'm not sure on how well it does.
The big exe is from the C run time. You don't have to use it, but you'll have to handle some things yourself, like creating the entry point.
A compiler will still never beat savagely hand optimized code, though. |

The question is, can YOU do what i said above in ASM? i don't think so.
So you're saying you would rather make a, lets use as an example, Instant messenger, You would rather make it in ASM? I don't think so. Most programs today are made with C++, the industry standard, it's that way for a reason. Just because ASM makes your little maplestory hacks better and faster doesn't mean its a better language for every type of app. |

Anywhere speed is needed, you'll find ASM.
Raytracers, emulators, game engines, professional applications like CAD, Maya, etc.
Not only speed, but there are times when one will need to do some low level shit.
It's the language of the CPU, it's not going anywhere. |

| use MMX and compare your compiler-generated code to our hand-written and see what you have to say then.. |

eh... crazybeef didnt answer my question... so he prolly doesnt know asm =O
dude just because you cant learn/understand asm doesnt mean its retarded/stupid/useless.... it actaully means vise versa you're retarded/stupid

Even if ASM is faster, that doesn't mean you should write everything in ASM. The average application will not see any benefit out of things running 1% faster, and the productivity loss you take by doing everything in ASM will greatly outdo the performance increase, especially since if you write something in C++ you could take that extra time to profile your application, and rewrite the slowest parts using inline assembly.
Fucking a, pull your head out of ASM's ass and stop thinking its the best language to use in every situation
And slugsnack just shut up, you're an idiot. |

| stop changing your argument now. nobody said asm is the best in every situation or is the best language to use to solve every problem, only that it produces the fastest code. you were the idiot that attempted to argue otherwise. |
