IMO, the Antec Twelve Hundred is overkill in most cases (heh, cases).

The GTX 260 on its own provides a pretty good performance vs. price against ATi cards of similar caliber, but the Core 216 is overpriced for the performance improvement it offers. However, if you're getting a P45 board, then I'd recommend an ATi card.

Personally, I would stick with a Gigabyte P45 board.

A 620W PSU by Corsair would cover it, with room to spare.

Corsair RAM looks pretty good, especially their models with "DHX" cooling technology. But A-DATA is fine.

Ok, the other 2 got the most things but.

I would suggest you to buy a chassi @ around 100-150$, that case is good, but unnessesry for this build.

Change hdd to this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218

And @ 260, 216 its good really. I don't like ati (tho I bought many now) but the new model stands up alot.

If you have time to wait, the new (again yes) 260GTX will come soon.
WIth 55nm.

That cpu is a little overkill, 550watt should be enought if your not planning to have sli/cf.

Good build, like it.

Might wanna change the CPU to E8400 if your only gaming.

the 260 216 is about $10 more, and is about 20% more powerful.

uh, no.

there's almost zero difference, at all. It's basically a ploy to extract more money out of idiots. And it's a lot more than $10.

Straight from the latest Hardocp review:

Quote:
The only problem we have with the new GeForce GTX 260 is this: it has no right to be more expensive than the original GTX 260, and yet it is. It is no faster than the original, regardless of how many more shaders or texture units it has, and yet it consistently costs more. It is hard for us to see the "revised" GeForce GTX 260 as anything but an excuse for NVIDIA to raise prices back up to where perhaps they should have been competition notwithstanding. NVIDIA maniacally cut prices in the face of stiff competition from AMD, and perhaps cut a little too deep. It is convenient, then, that this supposedly updated GeForce GTX 260 GPU comes out at a higher price tag.

Remember that it was initially supposed to supplement the original GTX 260, not supplant it. All that has changed now, and the "old" GTX 260 is going away. While we can understand that NVIDIA and its partners need to make money as much as any other business, we very much feel like this has been a case of bait-and-switch, and while we're expected to spend more money on this "new" GTX 260, we aren't really getting anything more out of it according to every game we have tested so far. Thankfully, prices on the “new” GTX 260 are starting to drop this holiday season, and we hope to see that continue.

I don't really understand why you would need 8gb of RAM, seems like a bit overkill to me. Also, anything over 4gb is (physically) useless on a 32-bit system. So this leads me to ask, what is the planned OS for the system?

and 8 gigs is too much.
the os is vista ultimate 64, and i already know about the 32 bit 3.5 gigs limit.

Ok? That proved nothing.

The 216 version is a waste of money. $40+ dollars extra for a few extra frames in best case scenario. Fantastic.
