Any notable difference between these two, Asus P5QL Pro vs. P5Q Pro, ie. what's the difference between Intel P43 and P45?

The difference is that the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3 is the superior board.

I doubt there's a huge difference in reality, other than tweaks here and there. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll see some milliseconds of improvement, and some new features.

The main improvements of P45 over P43 are:
-Can support 2 Gen2 PCI-E x8 cards
-Can support a higher clock speed on DDR3 memory (1333 as opposed to 1066)
-Has better overclockability.

Just a comment, the Asus P5Q family BIOS has a LOT of options. Not necessarily a good or a bad thing, but something to mention (I own a P5Q Pro).

Any personal comments on that board? When it was released, I heard there were lots of instability issues, but nowdays everyone seems to be recommending it.

I've been watching for this board, but decided to leave it out, since last time I had Gigabyte (almost 10 years ago?) it wasn't exactly the best one. I've been way more happy with ASUS boards...

I Can't really say anything about p43, but I really suggest P45.
Very good for overclocking and stable and CHEAP for it's features.

I'd put those worries behind personally, it seems to be THE p45 board to have outside of the super expensive right now. They are overclock monsters, if that's your thing

I know it ;) I'm just wondering about p43.. It'd save me 50e to get that p43 board with an L in the end, so I'm wondering if p45 worth of the money.

Worth the money if you overclock.
