Gaming laptops are more portable than gaming desktops, even if they have less than 90 minutes of battery life. Needing to be plugged in to an outlet doesn't remove the portability factor. For example, what if he wanted to bring his laptop to school so he could play games during break in the library? Most people think of portable as being on battery only, while some people bring desktop replacements to work and leave it plugged in.

gaming laptops are pretty bad choices cuz they run hot, the high end graphics cards on them are pretty expensive, and their battery life is generally terrible. Alienware is good, only if you have the cash.
