Comparing both models:

A=M17, B=M17x, T=Tie
Letter at the end of the category indicated which model is superior

1. Operating System: A (assuming laptop B only provides 32bit version of Vista). If not then it's a T

2. Processors: A

3. Chipset: A

4. Memory: A

5. Graphics: A (offers dual card support)

6. Storage Technology: B

7. Optical Technology: A

8. Wireless Connectivity:
- Wireless Lan: T
- BlueTooth: A

9. Wired Connectivity: T

10. Audio: B

11. Connections (USB, etc): B Expect they out to take out Firewire B and replace that with eSATA. Firewire B is useless.

12. Viewing Experience: B

13. Battery: T

14. Security: A

15. Miscellaneous: B

Alienware, hasn't been shy to hike up its prices. Make a desktop, unless you're a lazy kid who can't do without his half-hour of gaming at lunch in high school..
