tell your parents that you need a fast computer for research online and typing projects and crap like that. and a good graphics card for art/tech class for photoshop editing.

Better parts isn't always associated with gaming. Sometimes getting better parts is because your old parts isn't what it's used to and it's time for a upgrade because the software you want to use will not run.
Getting good high quality parts can be expensive, but in the long run it will save you on your electric bill.
Here's a nice article you can show to your parents why it's time for a upgrade.

lol thats more like it!
why dont my parents want me gaming?
because honestly, gaming is useless. gaming rarely gets u anywhere in life. yay u gained a lvl in maplestory. who cares? yay u got a lot of headshots in halo.
as opposed to:
yay i got into UC berkeley, etc.
im still 15, so my best investment in time is studying. but i still play games =D
its ok if u play an hour or so every day i guess, but i get really addicted. especially if the graphics are better and i can actually play games better than maplestory and warcraft..

just because you game dosent make you unsucessful.

| I remember reading it some where it says studies shows that kids who play games like FPS, they are less likely to make a mistake when they become brain surgeons.

It's all about control. I would rather play 1 hour of an awesome game like Crysis than play 6 hours of a crappy free game like MapleStory.
Anyways, you can build an awesome computer that plays Crysis on medium-high for $600. Have an OEM do that for you.

BUILD- custom specs, cheaper, cooler, and you really get to pick anything you want on it, no junk software.
RETAIL- no risk of messing up the process, no hassle of building it, and theres a warranty.
