Every time I select something by holding the left mouse button and moving it down (you know, to create that square/rectangle box), the lines stay there after I let go.

The only way that I know to get rid of it is by refreshing the desktop.

This gets a bit tedious after a while, so is there any other way to stop this from happening?

are you holding in like the alt key when you're doing that? on some school computers it stays there when you hold down alt or something.

I assume your computer might be a little overloaded. There's a possibility you do not have sufficient RAM or maybe there are just a ton of things going on behind the scenes. Open Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and have a look at the "Processes" tab. If you see there are alot of processes, it may be possibly why it's happening, try reducing the amount of processes there are. Also try defragmenting your computer, I'd suggest and recommend JkDefrag. You may also want to download CCleaner as well! Smile
